Elijah & Elisha Lapbook

I decided to make a lapbook for Elijah and Elisha to use for review after each lesson. I have divided Elisha and Elijah into 6 lessons. I realize that you can teach a whole quarter on them, but I wanted to teach a lot in 4 quarters! So, I combined some of the lessons about them to make these. I did keep each section of questions together, so you can use them as a separate lesson, or delete them if you are not teaching that specific part of their life. That is the great thing about lapbooks. Everyone that makes, say, one of these Elijah and Elisha lapbooks, will make them different. And, there isn't anything wrong with that! These are only in color, but you can print in gray scale if you do not want the color. Here are the basics for making a lapbook:

Pick your color of file folder you want to use. If you are using a color file folder, try to pick a color to match the front cover if you can. Then, open it up and fold each end toward the middle line. I line it up with the center line and across the bottom. You want them to meet in the middle, or the cover will not look right. I usually turn mine inside out so the printed logo inside is on the back outside and I don't have to worry about covering it up. (Personal preference)

Lay the cover on the top of the folder, and carefully open it up making sure it is even. Draw a line on the back of the cover using one edge of the file folder.

Carefully cut along the line and glue each piece to the correct side of the file folder. I use Aleene's Tacky Glue found in the craft isle of your store.

This is what the cover will look like after it is cut and glued. That is how to do just about any lapbook. The inside will be different depending on how much you want to add to the inside and how you want to add the extra papers.

The left flap and the center green cardstock add-on sheet is lesson 1, which I am teaching Elijah is fed by the ravens and Elijah helps the widow.

With this picture, you can see the added cardstock to make more pages in the lapbook. On the top left is lesson 2, which is Elijah : God vs. Baal. On the bottom left is lesson 3 and is Naboth's vineyard. On the yellow in the center and right flap is lesson 4. It is Elijah carried by flaming chariot to Heaven.

This last photo has lesson 5 on the top of the center orange file folder. It is for Elisha and the widow's oil. The bottom of the orange and the right yellow page is lesson 6. This lesson is about Elisha and Naaman. Also, if you look closely, you can see where I used wide clear packing tape to tape the extra cardstock papers to the sides to make the extra pages for the lapbook. I cut my length, then put one side of the tape to the back side of the cardstock. Then, line up the cardstock to side fold. I hold up the tape so it doesn't stick until I have it where I want it.

Also, I lay everything out to see how it will fit, then add the extra pages. Then I glue everything down. If I have a lot, I will use paper clips to hold the parts to each area until they are glued down.

For my Bible class, I have these all prepared for class. It's a lot of work, but worth it. This is a project if you can get some of the teens or women to help you cut and or glue if it will make it easier for you. I like to do it myself, just because I like everything cut really straight.

  1. I often do little Bible crafts with my grandchildren, and I've never thought of using folders this way. It's a great idea and a good way to turn a folder into a "book." Thanks for the ideas.

  4. thank you for going into detail on how to make the lap folders with the Elijah and Elisha lap book. I like doing things with my Wed night bible class kids 4 to 1st grade . Do you make one for each child or is there just one for the class room?

    1. I make one for each student, they answer the questions, and when we are done, they take them home. If your students can't write, maybe you will want to make one to use as a visual, and just use it for you to ask them questions, and they can answer. Thanks for the comment!

  5. I see what you mean about holding the tape up. I didn't do too good of a job with that. so hopefully I can cover up the mistakes with the story pieces. I love these lap books. I get started on them and don't want to quit.

    1. I don't have templates here. If you only need a couple, I use the shapes in Microsoft Word. You will find a lot in my Pinterest board Here: https://www.pinterest.com/djac123/bible-lapbooks-ffg-books-foldables-etc/ I have purchased some of mine here: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/The-Candy-Class and https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Tangstar-Science/Category/-Interactive-NB-Templates Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate the comment.

  7. Hi,
Thank you for all the great work you do. You always give me ideas how to continue the Bible lessons with my children. Just have one quick question about the lap book: I’m not sure I understand one of the lapbook questions - ‘how would they get dew or rain?’ Is that what you meant to ask, or how long they would not get it?? Hope you can help me out.

  8. Gerline, sorry for the delay. Some of the lapbook questions can be used different ways and I am sorry that I didn't add answers for the teachers to make it easier for everyone. I honestly don't remember, but the answer would be when God decided the right time and He would send it. 1 Kings 18:1
