Part C:
I have been wanting to expand the last days of Jesus lessons. I have them very condensed for my age group and because of the weeks I have them vs. the lessons I want to teach. This continues from Part B with some review and is about Jesus being crucified and the resurrection of Jesus. Scripture reference is Matthew 27:26-28:8.
We have been studying the last days of Jesus. Jesus went with His disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray. While they were there, the soldiers arrested Jesus. All the disciples of Jesus ran and left Him there.
The soldiers took Jesus to Caiaphas the high priest first. The next morning, Jesus was taken to Pontius Pilate the governor. Pilate asked the people if they wanted him to release Barabbas who was a famous prisoner or Jesus. They shouted to crucify Jesus.
Jesus was taken away and beaten and had horrible things done to Him as a prisoner. The soldiers made fun of Him saying "Hail, King of the Jews!" and put the crown of thorns on His head and a purple robe on Him. After Jesus was brought out, the soldiers found Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross for Jesus.
The soldiers took Jesus to a place called Golgotha, which means 'Place of a Skull'. They crucified Jesus there. The soldiers put up a sign over His head that said, "This is Jesus the King of the Jews."
They also crucified two thieves, one on each side of Jesus. (Matthew 27:38) As people walked by Jesus, they shook their heads and made fun of Him. They said, "If You really are the Son of God, Come down off the cross!"
There was darkness over the land between the 6th through the 9th hours. When Jesus cried out and died, the veil in the temple was ripped from the top to the bottom, there was an earthquake which caused rocks to split apart!  Some graves were opened and Christians that had been killed were alive again!
The Centurion said that Jesus certainly was the Son of God! By the time Jesus died, the people and soldiers started to get the idea that He really was the Son of God! The soldiers were really afraid, and they were not afraid of too much!
Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus took the body of Jesus to a nearby garden where Joseph had a new tomb. It was a cave cut into limestone rock. They laid Him on a ledge and rolled a big rock in front of the opening to cover it.
(Mathew 27:62-66) The chief priests remembered that Jesus had said that He would rise up after 3 days. They went to Pilate and asked for soldiers to stand guard so that the Disciples couldn’t steal the body and pretend that Jesus had really come back from the dead. Pilate agreed and sent guards to watch the tomb.
(Matthew 28:1-8) At dawn on Sunday while it was still dark, the first day of the week, several women that were friends of Jesus, headed for the tomb. The women were wondering how they were going to move the stone that was blocking the door. They wanted to put spices that they brought with them on the body of Jesus.
There was a great earthquake, and an angel came down from Heaven and rolled back the stone! The guards were so scared that they passed out!
When the women arrived at the tomb, they saw the stone was already moved and when they went into the tomb, they found it empty. An angel was inside and told the women not to be afraid. He knew that they were looking for Jesus and he told them that Jesus wasn’t there because He had arisen. They could come and see where Jesus had been laying. The angel told the women to "Go, quickly, and tell the Disciples that Jesus has risen, and that Jesus would see them in Galilee."

  6. It's great that you are sharing these helps for teaching a lesson that is shared every year in children's programs. Teachers need extra variety in their presentation to keep the kids' attention for a story they think they've already heard.
