Gideon is #10 in the second quarter of lessons for the preschool class.
They have so much fun with Gideon!

Let’s learn about Gideon. He is found in the Old Testament book of the Bible called Judges.  An Angel of God came to Gideon and said, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”  (Valor means full of courage or brave.) The angel told Gideon that God would be with him. God has chosen Gideon to fight the Midianites to save the people!
But, Gideon didn’t believe that God really wanted HIM to fight! He was just… Gideon! Why did God pick him?
So, Gideon asked God that “IF you really want ME to save Israel, I will put a piece of wool on the floor. If You put dew on the wool only and there isn’t any dew on the floor, then I will know you will save Israel by my hand.” The next morning, Gideon could wring water from the wool and there wasn’t any dew on the floor.
Gideon asked God again, “Don’t be angry with me, but one more test, will You put the dew on the floor and make the wool dry this time?” And, of course, when Gideon woke up, there was dew on the floor and the wool was dry.

Gideon took 300 men with him to fight the Midianites. Gideon divided the 300 men into three groups of 100 men each. He gave each man a trumpet (ram’s horn), and empty pitcher with a torch inside. He told them to watch him and do like he does.

When I blow the trumpet, then you blow yours and say “The sword of the Lord and of Gideon.” Gideon had 100 men with him and when they got to the camp about midnight, they blew the trumpets and broke the pitchers. Then the other groups of men did the same thing! They held the torches in the left hand and their trumpets in their right hand.
God was with Gideon and the 300 men. Gideon and his men won the battle that night because they obeyed God.
Lesson is found in Judges 6.

I changed the ram's horns for this lesson. Instead of buying horns, I printed this horn template onto brown cardstock. I glued the two pieces together, but for the bowl, I just glued along the sides to leave the bowl open. Once the glue was almost dry, I inserted (whatever you want, I used straws) to force it to pop open while it finished drying. Click here to download the color and black & white.

I also found this different fabric for the fleece. I cut small pieces for the students to use and take home, then had a big piece for myself. This fabric doesn't shed as much as the one I normally purchase and the kids love it! The fleece I used is Khaki Sherpa Suede Fabric found at Hobby Lobby. In most stores, look along the back wall where the blanket fleece is and you will find a couple different colors to choose from.

Print this foldable in color or black and white. I print a color for the teacher's visual and black & white for the students. Fold in half on the dotted line, then in half again with the night scene inside. Students will color (or whatever you like to use) the dew for the wool scenes, then we added star stickers to the night scene. Click here to download.
