3.11. Daniel in the Lion's Den

www.biblefunforkids.com
The kids really had fun with this lesson! I used a Tri-Fold board to create a lion's den to review the lesson. Add the lions and headband, it was a fun way to learn about Daniel!
Daniel is older now than when he was taken to Babylon with Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego. The king was very impressed with Daniel and he made Daniel one of the three governors over the whole kingdom of Babylon. There is a new king and his name is King Darius.

King Darius is thinking about making Daniel in charge of the whole kingdom because Daniel showed such great character. The other governors were worried about Daniel having so much power, so they started looking for something to get Daniel in trouble.
Since Daniel followed the laws and didn’t do anything wrong, they talked King Darius into making a new law. Under the new law, anyone who prayed to anyone but the king for the next 30 days would be thrown into the lion’s den.
Even after knowing this law was signed, when Daniel went home, he went to his upper room and prayed on his knees to God. He has done this 3 times every day since he was young, so those men knew that!
They told the king that Daniel was still praying to God in heaven. This really upset King Darius because he liked Daniel a lot. Daniel was a good man.
King Darius gave the command to have Daniel thrown into the lion’s den, but told him “Your God will deliver you.”  They put a stone across the opening and King Darius fasted (didn’t eat) and he couldn’t sleep because he was so worried about Daniel.
Early in the morning King Darius hurried to the lion’s pit. He was anxious to see Daniel. Daniel told King Darius that God sent His angel to protect him.
God closed the lion’s mouths since Daniel didn’t do anything wrong. Daniel was brought up out of the lion's den.
God was with Daniel. And Daniel was faithful to God and continued to prosper in Babylon.
Lesson found in Daniel 6.
I had this set up on the floor before class. They love coming in and seeing something fun ready for them! I cut a project display (science) board in half and I used the Cobblestone background paper. to cover it front and back. I printed an extra Daniel and King Darius from the printable below. I poked a hole in the center of the fold and inserted string (knotted at the end inside) in Daniel to lift him up and down and around the lion's den. I found the lions at Dollar Tree. We prayed, sang songs, taught the lesson, did the project below, then went to the floor to use this for a review. The students picked a lion to take home.

I created this updated standup set for Daniel. This has the basic full sheet lion's den for the background with the lions. Daniel and the king are the standup. Daniel is two-sided with him praying on one side and just standing on the other. This set includes the color and the black & white. Click here to download.

I did the bulletin board for this quarter with Daniel. I used the Cobblestone background paper. I added an oval at the top in the center with the cloud paper and inserted a thick string. The Bible states that Daniel was dropped down into the den. I had the lions leftover from VBS, which was why I decided to make this for the bulletin board. I drew the lions on yellow poster board and purchased fur fabric. I cut out the fur and glued it on with Aleene's Tacky Glue. The Daniel letters have been used on several boards, so I had those in my supplies. Also, Daniel was older, so I used this older man for Daniel. You can download the Daniel I used, the original Daniel and several lions that can be used to enlarge. There is the Daniel ready to print and put together also. Because of enlarging the graphics, I used a black Sharpie marker on the black lines and it looked much better. Click here too download.
