Review: Last week we studied the baptism of Jesus. Jesus went to the Jordan River. He found John and wanted John to baptize Him. Jesus had never sinned, but He needed to show by example what God wants us to do. They went in the Jordan River and John baptized Jesus all the way under!
Scripture is Matthew 4:1-11 Mark 1:12-13 Luke 4:1-13. After Jesus was baptized, He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness. It’s the desert. He will be tempted by Satan. Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights. That means He didn’t eat … anything. Think about that!

After that time, (40 days) He was hungry. Satan came to tempt Jesus. Discuss how He must feel, tired, hot, miserable, etc.

#1 Satan said “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread Jesus told him that bread isn't the only thing that you need to live on, you need the Words of God also.
#2 Satan took Jesus up into the Holy City and put Him at the top of the temple. He said “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down and let the angels save you” Jesus answered this time saying Again, do not tempt the Lord. (The Holy City is the highest point of the temple in Jerusalem)
#3 Now Satan took Jesus up to a really high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world. Satan told Jesus that I will give You all these things if You will fall down and worship me. Well, Jesus answered by telling Satan to go away! You should only worship the Lord your God and only serve Him! Remember, this is our Bible scripture for today. One of the 10 commandments is You shall have no other gods before Me. (Exodus 20:3)
Finally, Satan left Jesus and angels came and ministered to Him.

Remember that Jesus said NO to temptation. He was weak, tired and hungry and could have given in, but He didn’t. God expects us not to sin and that means staying out of trouble and doing what our parents tell us to do.
As I told the Bible lesson, I had the kids fill in their chart. I had everything cut, they just glued the parts on as we talked.

Teacher's Answers (I printed this and used as my visual for the kids to work on their chart.) You can print it here.

The student's worksheet has the printables to cut and glue in the correct order, and I told them to write NO very big in the last columns. You can print it here.

The temptations:
1) stones to bread
2) jump from temple, have angels save Him
3) showed kingdoms from high mountain, will give to Him if He worships Satan

    2. Game to play after lesson: kids form circle, give first kid a few word sentence, & tell him to whisper it quietly to next kid, next kid whispers to next kid, etc. At end have last kid say what heard. Next have another kid start game. Object: If don't hear or learn God's word correctly can get wrong message. Should read Bible & get answers from people who love God.

  6. I found you tonight looking for Jesus Temptation lesson ideas. Love it, I am now a Pinterest follower and have your blog in my favs. Question: I do not quite understand what to do with the lapbook ideas or what a lapbook is exactly? I am wondering specifically what to do with the three printables for the temptations - the one you fold like a matchbook, what did Jesus answer, one is who tempted Jesus and the other is how long did Jesus fast. Help?

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by! I will have a lapbook post here Feb. 13, if you'd like to stop back. But, if you print all the lapbook parts of the lessons that you want to use, then cut them out, fold them as directed, and glue them to a file folder, add a cover, then that is a lapbook. There is usually a question on the outside, then you can write the answer on the inside. I added the link for all the lapbook printables for Jesus above, under the links you mentioned. If you look at Life of Paul lapbook, there are better pictures and more ideas: http://kidsbibledebjackson.com/2012/10/life-of-paul-lapbook.html
      And, thanks for following!

  7. Thank-you from a fledling Messy church, Parish of Blandford in Nova Scotia. On a busy night we may have 15 kids. Finding activities for children who "never went to church before" is a challenge. You, Jesus being tempted, is a perfect match. Thank-you for this activity

  19. Mesquite Worship Center, Mesquite NV used this to teach today. It severed as an introduction to temptation and Matthew 4. The children were excited and took the puzzles home to play with and completed the coloring pages. It was a blessing for our church family to have this lesson provided for free. We are grateful for this site and all who dedicated time in preparing the lesson and art work. Thank you!
