3.10 The Fiery Furnace

Friday, November 10, 2017
King Nebuchadnezzar made a huge statue of gold, and put it where everyone could see it. King Nebuchadnezzar gathered all of his people and told them to come to the opening ceremony of this statue he had made.
King Nebuchadnezzar announced that when everyone heard the music start playing, all the people had to bow down and worship it or he would throw them into a fiery furnace.
But, Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego refused to bow down to the statue! God has said “Do not make or bow down to idols.” (Exodus 20)
Some men went to King Nebuchadnezzar and reminded him that he had made the law that everyone had to bow down to the gold statue. But, there were some Jews that were put in charge over Babylon that did not worship the golden statue!
When King Nebuchadnezzar found out that Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego refused to bow down, he was furious and King Nebuchadnezzar asked them why they didn’t do what he commanded.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego replied that they obey God and He would save them from the fiery furnace.
That made King Nebuchadnezzar even angrier, so he ordered the furnace to be made 7 times hotter! King Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego tied up and thrown into the fire!
The fiery furnace was so hot; it killed the men that threw them into it!! Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego fell down when they were thrown into the fire.  King Nebuchadnezzar was amazed when he looked in and said “Didn’t we throw in 3 men? I see 4 men! They are not tied up and they are walking around!” They said the fourth man looks like the Son of God! So, King Nebuchadnezzar went to the opening and told Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego to come out of the fiery furnace.
When Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-Nego came out of the furnace, they were not burned, they didn’t smell like fire, their clothes were not burned and their hair wasn’t even burned! King Nebuchadnezzar said “Blessed is their God, for He delivered His servants from the fire!” They had faith in God, they kept His commandments, and God was with them.
