VBS Under (God's) Construction
Featuring 2. Jonah
Our lessons were chosen to learn about people that were under construction. God's construction. These people made bad choices and mistakes, but eventually were faithful and obeyed God. Jonah disobeyed God and ran. He eventually obeyed God. The application is obedience.
Think of the application as the old Go Fish! game. There are several options to print and play and it is a matter of what will work best for your class. They love these game buzzers and get excited when they see them ready to use! I found this plain pool or something like this would work to throw the cards into. Or, use a type of large gold fish bowl or punch bowl.

I use the Magnetic Board Visuals (MBV) for something different. I move beside the wall decorated for the person each night and use the wall also. The MBV can be used how you prefer, but I print on cardstock, laminate and add thin magnets to the back.

I used my boat for this lesson. I had these construction coins on the deck and rocked the boat all over as I was holding it 'during the storm' and when it was time to throw the stuff overboard, I tossed out the coins and the kids LOVED it! It was unexpected fun for them! I set the boat down and picked up the fish and Jonah.
He was 'swallowed' up and I used the wall for more visual aid, and when the fish spit Jonah onto the dry land, the fish "spit' out Jonah! Yes, they loved this, too!
Another visual we used was this stuffed Jonah and the Big Fish. The first and second graders loved it and so did the third and fourth graders! This is a great visual and is holding up well with kids playing with it at home!
Because the fish is a lift-the-flap, I decided to put it on the wall, instead of the corner, so it would be supported. That meant I had to squeeze all the scenes together! I had made a smaller fish to be in the center picture swimming away, but it didn't look right. That is another option for you.
For the backgrounds, I found vinyl backgrounds here. You can pick from a lot of backgrounds, styles and sizes. Order early because they are shipped from Shanghai. They are folded, so if you have time, it helps to lay them out and roll them together to get the lines out. They were super easy to put up and take down and reusable.

I used part of this to make Nineveh.
To make the people, I take the person from a Sweet picture and blow them up full-size on the overhead. I painted the outfits and printed the faces and anything with skin to match. I used this tape as the divider for the before and after scene for each person we studied.
