To discuss John, I purchased some fabric that has a slightly rough texture that is a camel color. I bought a jar of honeyleather strap, and used a locust I have for the plagues.

The life of Jesus is found in the Bible. What are the two parts of the Bible? Old & New Testament. The first four books of the New Testament are called the Gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell us about Jesus. We will learn about Jesus in Matthew 3:13-17.

Jesus lived in Nazareth. Who were His parents? Mary and Joseph. When Jesus was about 30 years old, He left home and went to see John his relative.
John was called John the Baptist. John preached in the wilderness of Judea. John wore clothes made from camel’s hair and a leather belt. John ate locusts (bugs) and wild honey! People came to John from all around the area asking him to baptize them in the Jordan River.

John baptized the people in the Jordan River with water and said that the One coming was more important than him. John was preparing the way for Jesus to come. He did what God wanted and taught people about Jesus the Savior.
Jesus went to meet John at the Jordan River, too. He wanted to be baptized. And Jesus wanted John to baptize Him.
John told Jesus that “You should be baptizing me!” John asked Jesus “Why are You coming to me?” Jesus told John that they would make God happy by baptizing Him.
John and Jesus went into the Jordan River and John baptized Jesus.

Baptism is ‘all the way under’ and when Jesus came up out of the water, the Heavens were opened up and Jesus saw the Spirit of God coming down like a dove and a God said, “This is My Son that I love, and I am very pleased.” God was so happy that Jesus did what He wanted!

Jesus didn’t need to be baptized since He had never sinned. But Jesus was baptized to show us an example of what we need to do.

Jesus’ baptism the beginning of His ministry.

We used this map first. They love maps! We put John in the wilderness and had Jesus 'walk' to John at the Jordan River. Then, we turned the map over and talked about baptism. The directions are here, but I created a pocked with the water so John and Jesus could go 'in' the water, and we could tuck Jesus 'under;' the water. We added fish stickers for the water also.
