This another really fun lesson for the kids! This is the last lesson in the second quarter of this preschool curriculum.

Let’s learn about David. David was a shepherd for his dad. That means he took care of sheep. Let’s talk about a battle that David fought in.
King Saul and his soldiers stood on a mountain and across the valley on another mountain, there were Philistines. Goliath would come out of the Philistine camp every morning & evening and shout for them to pick a man to fight him. He did this for 40 days and whoever would lose the fight would be the servants of the winner. Goliath was over 9 foot tall.  He was huge! Goliath wore a lot of armor. He was very scary to them! He was the champion of Gath.
David had three older brothers that were in King Saul’s army and his father told David to take grain and 10 loaves of bread to his brothers. He also took 10 cheeses to the captain. While David was talking to his brothers, Goliath called out his request and David heard it. He heard about what King Saul was rewarding to the person that beat Goliath.
David told King Saul that he would go fight Goliath, but King Saul said David was too young. David replied that he had saved his sheep from a bear and a lion.

David told King Saul that God would deliver him.

He took his shepherd’s staff, picked 5 smooth stones from the brook and put them in his shepherd’s bag and took his sling shot. When Goliath saw David, he made fun of him. Why would they send this young guy to fight him?

David told him “Even though you come with all your weapons, I come in the name of the Lord, and He will deliver you into my hands.” They had to walk toward each other to meet for the battle. David took out a stone and slung it. It hit Goliath in the forehead so hard it sank into his head. Goliath fell down on his face!
Even though David was young, he had faith in God. God was with David and when the Philistines saw Goliath had died, they all ran away!
David and Goliath is found in 1 Samuel 17.

I have this felt that looks like water. I add the smooth stones found at Dollar Tree (or just about anywhere) They love picking up the 5 smooth stones! look for the post below that had directions to make the slingshot.

The kids love these Stand-Ups! This set has David the shepherd on one side and the valley for David and Goliath on the other side. Just print, fold in half and the background is ready. There is David the shepherd on one side and David with his slingshot on the other side. I included extra sheep also. I printed the background on cardstock and the people on regular paper. I print a color set for a teacher's review and the black and white for the students. Click here to download.
