This is part of the preschool lessons for Acts. When we taught this, the book we were using didn't have anything about Jesus returning to heaven, so I added a condensed lesson and quick project to discuss where Jesus is now, then taught this lesson about what Jesus wants from us now.

Our lesson is in Acts 2 and we learn more about the disciples that Jesus had chosen. Remember that Judas had betrayed Jesus? Matthias was picked to replace him. Do you know how many disciples Jesus had? 12 Jesus has returned to heaven to be with God. The disciples were all together in a house in Jerusalem.
Suddenly there was a loud noise! It came from heaven and was like a great strong wind. The sound filled the whole house where the people were sitting.

God sent His Holy Spirit to help the disciples! There was a flame of fire that divided and sat on each person’s head! They could instantly speak in different languages! They could talk and understand languages that they didn’t study to learn! This was so important, because now the disciples could teach more people about Jesus.

When the people in the city heard the sound, they went running to the house. The crowd had people from different countries. At first, they were confused because the disciples were talking in different languages and everyone could understand them. They thought this was so amazing!

Peter stood up with the disciples and spoke to the crowd. Peter told the people about Jesus. Peter said that Jesus lived, did miracles and returned to heaven.
The crowd listened and asked “What do we need to do to follow Jesus?” Peter told them to repent and be baptized in the name of Jesus. The people were happy to hear Peter’s words and about 3,000 people were baptized! They stayed faithful to God. They learned more about Jesus, prayed and worshipped together.

I created this for my second grade class, but it is great for this lesson for a lot of ages!
The lesson plan that we were using didn't have anything about Jesus returning to heaven after He died and lived again. I really felt preschoolers needed the reinforcement of where Jesus is now. So, I added a short review for His resurrection, then condensed His return to heaven first. We did the above project, which I had ready except for them gluing the clouds. They have fun watching Jesus go to heaven. Then, we talked about this lesson. So, they had the flame headbands and Jesus returning to heaven to take home.  Click here to print Jesus in color.
